Android Wear watches are known to be available via fancy brands like Tag Heuer, Michael Kors, or Huawei. The prices on the watches definitely match the prestige. But that trend may be changing. A little-known startup called Mobvoi has partnered with Google to offer an Android Wear watch that costs only $99.
Mobvoi is currently developing an Android Wear watch line called Ticwatch E and Ticwatch S. The company is still in the development stage. However, Mobvoi’s Kickstarter page is now offering a finished version of Ticwatch E for the surprisingly low price tag. This is a limited time offer; when Ticwatch E goes retail, it will cost $159. Ticwatch S is a higher end model of the same watch with more features. It’s available on Kickstarter and retail sites for $119.
Even if Ticwatch E is being sold off Kickstarter, it’s the cheapest Android Wear 2.0 watch available in the market today.
For the $99 price tag, Ticwatch E comes with quite wonderful features. The watch has a bright 400×400 resolution 1.4-inch screen. The watch even has a GPS sensor and a heart rate monitor. Even some expensive Android Wear watches lack these features. Google Assistant and Maps are available on Ticwatch E, and some reviewers have praised how fast these apps work on the device. Interestingly enough, the Ticwatch S is equipped with a Mediatek processor, instead of a Qualcomm one.
The Ticwatch E is available in a number of appealing colors like lime and white, including the must-have black. The watch will have silicone and rubber mix straps, which can make the watch look cheaper. Both watch models are slim, because the developers have forgone cellular radio to keep the devices lightweight. The watches are also known to have batteries that can last long up to 2 days.
Ticwatch E is indeed seems like a wonderfully affordable Android Wear watch to own. If you want one, you will have to buy on Kickstarter before the product goes retail.
