Design of the AKASO EK7000
In terms of camera design, the AKASO EK7000 most resembles the SJCAM SJ4000. It has the same shape and even has similar dimensions to that action camera. The camera is made from good quality plastic that has a sturdy feel to it. One of the perks of this design is that the company has added a textured pattern to all four sides of the camera. As a result, it is much easier to get a grip on this small piece of equipment.
A surprising but welcome feature on the EK7000 is the two inch display screen. When you consider the cost of this action camera, it really is a large and unusual element. It also sets it apart from competitors such as Lightdow LD4000 whose display is just 1.5 inches.
The ports are placed on the right side of the camera. These include the HDMI port, the MiniUSB port, and the MicroSD port. The bottom of the camera is where the battery compartment resides. Overall, the AKASO has a solid build with just enough of controls to make it great value for money. The controls feel like they are of good quality as well. You don’t have to worry about continuously pressing them and having them wear out on you.
One of the perks of buying this particular model, however, is the fact that there are so many accessories to choose from. In just the one box, you get a remote control, two batteries, a waterproof case, bicycle stand, seven mounts, two clips, a helmet mount, five tethers, and more! When you consider just how much you are paying for this action camera, the accessories almost seem excessive. You will essentially not have to buy anything else for your action camera.
Despite all of the mounts that come along with this action camera, it is also compatible with GoPro mounts. As a result, it is a much more versatile camera.
Buttons and Modes of the AKASO EK7000
There are five buttons present on this action camera. There is a large one on the front of the camera, near where the lens is. This is to power the camera and to access the modes. The buttons on the side allow you to scroll through the setting available with the EK7000. The two buttons on the top of the camera allow you to either capture images or record video, depending on which one you press.
The main modes on this camera are video, single photo, burst, and time lapse mode. These can either be chosen on the camera or via the remote control provided in the packaging.
Video and Image Quality of the AKASO EK7000
The image quality on the EK7000 is quite good at 12MP. It may not be as high as some of the other options such as WiMiUS Wifi Action Camera which boasts 16 MP. The pictures that are captured are clear, vivid, and have exquisite detail. Therefore, although it may not be the highest resolution, it is still high quality, especially at this price point. These 12MP images can be taken at 30 frames per second.
With the EK7000, you get three options when it comes to video quality. You can choose the 4K at 25 fps, the 2.7K at 30 fps, or 1080p at 60 fps. Now, the 4K on this action camera is pretty good. You should be aware that it doesn’t really provide the same quality as with more expensive action cameras, however. At this price point, you are probably dealing with interpolated 4K, which can’t really be considered the “real deal”. Interpolated is when the video is actually shot in 2.7K and then there are pixels added to the video to give it a sharper image. Nonetheless, the quality that is produced with both the 4K and the 2.7K is adequate.
The 1080p is really good and if you are not finicky about filming in 4K, then this is the resolution that you want to choose. If you are willing to drop the quality to 720p, you will actually be able to film slow motion video at 120 frames per second.
Features of AKASO EK7000
So, what else does the EK7000 have to offer aside from the great image and video quality? Well, it actually has loads of other features. Perhaps one of the most valuable aspects of this action camera is that it is waterproof to a certain extent. This is when it placed inside its water resistant casing. The case has received an IP68 rating. The EK7000 can then be submerged in up to 30m (100 feet) of water.
The action camera also has Wi-Fi capabilities. This works alongside with the app that you have to download onto your smartphone or tablet. Then, you are able to view, share, and edit the images or video from iOS or Android devices. The signal is good for up to 10 meters.
There are two rechargeable batteries available with this action camera. Each of them are able to record for up to 90 minutes at a time.
